Geography Middle School Map Competition Details

The geography competition is a map quiz of different regions of the world. Regions are assigned by grade level according to the following divisions:

• Grades 5 - 6 - 50 US States and 8 major cities
• Grades 7 - 8 – Countries of Europe, 8 major cities, and 10 water features

Each contestant is given a blank map outline of the country and a checklist. The checklist contains the names of each country, city, and/or feature with a number assigned to it. The contestant labels the map with the correct corresponding number from the checklist.

Grades 5 - 6

• Label the 50 states of the US with their correct abbreviation from the checklist and correctly label 8 major US cities.
• If there is a tie, correctly labeling a map of South America (countries only) will be the tie breaker.

Grades 7 - 8 Grade

• Label with the correct number the 48 countries of Europe, 8 major European cities, and 10 water features (seas and gulfs).
• In the event of a tie, labeling a map of the Middle East (countries only) will be the tie breaker.

This is a drop-in test that takes approximately 10 – 20 minutes to complete.
