Years or the last year attended ZLO:Fall2000-Spring2003

Education since ZLO:During the '02-'03 school year I started attending Whatcom Community College through the Running Start program and finished Fall Quarter of 2004 with a Associates Degree with Honors.

Highlights of things you've done since ZLO:
After completing the Running Start program I applied for a mission training and outreach program with Youth With a Mission (YWAM) at a base in Denver, CO.  The program--called a Discipleship Training School (DTS)--began in March and lasted 5 months, ending in Sept.  Three months were spend in discipleship with much Bible teaching and a week of training for outreach.  Two months I spent in Mexico on the Yucatan Penninsula in the cities of Cancun and Merida.  I've been home now since last Sept. and am mostly involved in several volunteer positions in my community, teaching piano and guitar, and looking for a part time job.

What influence, if any, ZLO has had for you?
ZLO was very important for me academically in creating a classroom experience that was still very personal and one-on-one.  Being with other students challenged me to try harder and having a set schedule outside of the home helped me accomplish more.  The teachers were also very understanding as well as challenging.  I also found ZLO to be a very high level learning environment that more than prepared me for the community college level.  I found that the transition from ZLO to Whatcom was very smooth.  I was able to place at a high level in English into the Running Start program, and though I did not take math at ZLO I have friends from ZLO who have placed into very high classes as well in the Running Start program.  I also found that I knew many people already at the community college since so many former ZLO students continue on to Whatcom and I became greater friends with some people that I had only casually known in ZLO.

Favorite memory of ZLO:
I'm not sure if I have just one favorite ZLO memory, but one of my favorites was open house night.  I remember one particular time when my spanish class all dressed up to re-enact the story of "The House that Jack Built" or La Casa Que Juan Construyó.
