Jeff Widman

Years or the last year attended ZLO:7th-10th grade, 1998-2002

Education since ZLO:
Whatcom Community College, graduated with Honors from the Honors program, 2002-2004.
Western Washington University, 2004-2006 (completed a BA in Economics)
1-year internship with Campus Christian Fellowship at WWU.
Intending to return to WWU to complete a BS in Manufacturing & Supply Chain Management (2007-2008).

Highlights of things you've done since ZLO:
Spent 7 weeks bumming across England, Scotland, and Wales, sleeping in fields and under bridges.
Worked for 5 years as a summer camp counselor at a ranch in North Dakota.
Worked 5 years as a highschool basketball referee.
Lived life wholeheartedly and enthusiastically!

What influence, if any, ZLO has had for you?
Mrs. Taylor taught me to think critically and not assume my teachers are automatically correct. Mrs. Crocker gave me a great foundation in mathematics. Sue VanHoornbeek took me from barely writing a sentance to writing five paragraph essays. Each modeled a lifelong love of learning, and an emphasis on valuing others.

Favorite memory of ZLO:
Some of my favorite memories are the two years of math with just Sara Andaluz and Ryan Heathers; the three of us had great team chemistry, and I continue to count both as dear friends. I particularly remember the one day we were studying functions that contained graphical holes, and Ryan mentioning “that must have been what God used to create the ocean.” (Playing off of the song “There’s a hole in the bottom of the sea.”)

I also remember many spirited discussions with Mrs. Taylor regarding worldview concepts--she was such a blessing in my life!
