Years attended ZLO: 2006-2007 school year

Education since ZLO: I left ZLO to enroll at Whatcom Community College in the Running Start program full-time. I found out I could complete my associate’s degree by the time I graduated from high school, so I jumped at the chance. This would help me a lot, since the college I was looking at was $25,000 a year. This way, I would shave 2 years off of post-high school education, therefore saving me $50,000. I have been attending WCC for the last 2 years now, and plan to graduate this spring of 2009 with my Associate’s Degree in Arts and Sciences. I recently applied to Northwest University in Kirkland, WA (http://www.northwestu.edu/), and just found out I have been accepted for this coming fall of 2009! I plan to major in music ministry with a minor in communications, so I can be a worship pastor and possibly also get into radio or television broadcasting.

Highlights of what I’ve done since ZLO: The past two years since ZLO has really been one big adventure for me—I have been totally relying on God to get me through these years, what with such a crazy schedule, I relied on Him to see that I kept my grades up, made time for my homework, and kept me awake when I was driving or other times where consciousness was quite necessary! And I have loved every minute of this fantastic adventure—I look forward to this next adventure of my life at Northwest!

Impact ZLO had on my life: ZLO impacted me in many ways. One way—and probably the biggest impact for me—was how it introduced me back to homework. I had been to public school before, but I hadn’t had actual homework in 3 years, so ZLO taught me how to set aside time for homework and to complete it early, among other things. ZLO was also great because I needed an environment with kids all around my age that were strong in their Christian faith. By being involved with these kids, I learned how to strengthen my argument for Christianity, as well as how to counter argumentative points non-believers might have.

Favorite memories of ZLO instructors: Well, I only had two instructors while I was at ZLO, and they were Mrs. Bartlett and Mr. Woolverton. But they were definitely great instructors. It was awesome having Christian teachers—besides my mom home schooling me, I had never really had teachers who could display their Christian faith in the classroom setting. I loved all of the various activities we did in Mrs. Bartlett’s Spanish 101 class, and I loved all of the various experiments we did in Mr. Woolverton’s Physical Science/Chemistry class.
