Highlights of things you've done since ZLO:

  • -Finished making my first movie (www.curiousimagery.com/quadratic)
  • -Holding a weekly Bible study with many peers from WCC and ZLO
  • -Held a ceremony during which YEARS of Pizazz was burned in great fervor.
  • -Currently doing a Discipleship Training School with YWAM

What influence, if any, ZLO has had for you?
I learned so much from the teachers as people--their leadership and values and relationships with students as well as their personal relationships with God. I learned as much or more through off topic onversations and tangents as on-subject in-class material. I gained experience disciplining myself to work outside the box. Specifically I was able to get my feet wet in some less-than-typical High School subjects like Biblical Greek, Mythology, Astronomy, and Comparative Religions. Getting a well-rounded education is nice, but tasting some exotic and fun subjects is at least as important! Also, the value and respect that was given to me as an individual at ZLO really helped me to appreciate the teachers and genuinely get excited about a subject.

Favorite memory of ZLO:
There are so many! There's no experience like a field trip with Toria Bash, where she takes you to random nooks and crannies in your backyard you had no clue existed and then brings the things you did know about to life in a way you never expected. I've been blessed to have her share the heart God has given her both for responsible environmental stewardship and for loving homeless people. Of course here are those memories of evading the wrath of study hall proctors and having class outside (don't tell anyone, but it has happened before!). I've learned much through random conversations about the world and life and people and cultures and academics Nancy Taylor and Molly Crocker. Their examples as people of influence continue to inspire me. Through ZLO, I was also blessed to build a relationship with Scot Becker, who coached my Bible Quizzing team even when he wasn't still teaching at ZLO. He now remains a friend even from Scotland. I'm so thankful for teachers like Ellen Kester who relentlessly gave their full energy and best insights to their students--always expecting our best in return. The ways that stretched me has opened up exciting doors in my life.
